London Social: Thursday 12th September from 6pm
A new venue for our next London Social!

The Golden Lion, 25 King Street, St James's SW1Y 6QY

We have exclusive use of the Theatre Bar on the first floor of this famous old pub that sits opposite the site of the former St James Theatre where the first performance of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest took place on 14th February 1895. Wilde was at that time in court, accused of "acts of gross indecency" and black strips were placed over his name on the theatre hoardings to spare the audience's embarrassment.

Fifty years later the theatre was managed by Sir Laurence Olivier and he performed there with his wife Vivien Leigh. Sadly the theatre is no more, but The Golden Lion most definitely is and there has been a pub on the site for nearly 300 years.

Do come and join OWs young and old for a most pleasant evening - and the first drink is on us!
