What we are for

The Wellensian Association is the alumni organisation for past pupils of Wells Cathedral School. The objects of the Association are to help the School and to maintain friendships made through the School.

All Wells Cathedral School leavers become members of the Association. Subscriptions are charged on the School fees and members have nothing further to pay for a lifetime of membership.

We maintain a database of membership information (shared with the Wells Foundation) and encourage members to keep their contact data up to date, either via the Membership Area on this website or via an email to chairman@oldws.org.uk .

What we do

The Committee of the Association seeks to make membership rewarding for members by:

  • organising social and sports events
  • providing news via a website and personal emails
  • enabling members to offer support to current pupils and to the School

More details of all these activities are available elsewhere on this website.

We also welcome new Wellensians into membership and present a life membership token at a Welcome Reception usually held on the last Sunday of Trinity term.

How we work:

The Association is run by an executive Committee of at least six people which meets three times a year. Every member of the Committee has agreed to take on specific responsibilities. An Annual General Meeting, including elections, is held every summer and is open to all members.

See here for the Constitution of the Association.

The Association works closely with the Wells Cathedral School Foundation and has some overlapping aims. However the two organisations maintain a clear distinction concerning fundraising. The Association shares with the Foundation the work of strengthening ties between OWs and the School. The Foundation alone does the work of turning those ties into financial support.
